Midtown man arrested for November murder | News

ST. LOUIS — St. Louis police arrested a man Friday in connection with a homicide that occurred in November.A first-degree murder charge was filed Saturday against Derrick Rodgers, 32, of the 3600 block of Lindell Boulevard, in the death of 46-year-old Deanthony Smith.Smith was shot in the leg Nov. 1 in the 1400 block of Market Street downtown. He died more than three weeks later, on November 26. The medical examiner determined he died from complications related to the injury. Rodgers was arrested by the police department's Fugitive Apprehension Team. Police said he was in possession of two handguns and a shotgun at the time of his arrest.Rodgers was also charged with three counts of unlawful possession of a firearm and armed criminal action. In 2013, Rodgers was sentenced to six years in prison for domestic assault. He also received suspended sentences of up to five years for four domestic violence charges and one charge of violating a protection order in 2011.Rodgers also received suspended sentences for minor offenses, including domestic violence, in 2009 and 2011. He is currently charged with misdemeanor domestic violence for an incident in March.He is being held without bail.
