Middletown juvenile faces nearly a dozen charges in April shooting

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WTNH) — A 17-year-old faces nearly a dozen charges in connection with a roadside shooting in April.

The Middletown resident was located on July 1 and charged with the following:

  • two counts of attempted first-degree criminal assault,
  • criminal possession of a firearm,
  • carry a pistol without a permit,
  • illegal discharge of a firearm,
  • first degree reckless endangerment,
  • possession of a stolen motor vehicle,
  • third degree criminal mischief,
  • second degree breach of the peace,
  • and the commission of a Class A, B or C felony with a firearm.

They were transferred to a juvenile detention center and were due to appear in court on July 2.

The charges date back to April 24, when officers responded to the intersection of Pearl and Court streets for a report of a shooting around 2:30 p.m.

Officers determined that the driver of a vehicle traveling on Court Street stopped at the intersection and exited the vehicle before firing multiple shots from a handgun at two male targets who were talking on Pearl Street.

As the two men fled, one of them, later identified as Chauncey Robertson, 19, began shooting at the driver. Several rounds struck vehicles and homes in the area during the exchange of gunfire, police said.

Police said Robertson was arrested after a foot chase and his gun was recovered, but the driver walked back to the vehicle and drove off.

Detectives later identified the 17-year-old as the driver involved in the shooting and said he was driving a stolen vehicle at the time.
