Michigan police show support for sheriff's deputy killed in the line of duty

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI – The Michigan State Police Department is mourning the loss of a sheriff's deputy who was killed in the line of duty.

An Oakland County sheriff's deputy was killed Saturday evening, June 22.

The deputy was following a stolen vehicle in the Detroit area when at least one person inside the vehicle opened fire, fatally striking the deputy, according to WDIV Local 4.

Police had not yet identified the sheriff's deputy as of Sunday morning.

Departments across Michigan shared their condolences on social media.

“Please pray for his family, blood and blue. Our deepest condolences to his family and the Oakland County Sheriff's Office,” Holly police wrote on Facebook.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family of an Oakland County Sheriff's Office deputy who tragically lost his life in the line of duty last night. Rest in peace, brother,” the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office shared on social media.

Details about the fatal incident were limited Sunday. However, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard will hold a news conference at noon Sunday with more details about the shooting.
