Michigan man arrested for seeking sex with minor near Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI – A man accused of seeking sex with a child was arrested near Kalamazoo, police said.

Officers received a tip on May 21 from Michigan State Police that a man had made online statements and inquiries attempting to sexually assault a child in Kalamazoo Township, according to a news release from 30 May from the Kalamazoo Township Police Department.

Investigators determined the suspect was William Isaak Sparks, a 23-year-old man from Martin, police said.

Detectives monitored Sparks on May 24 in the 4200 block of Glen Avenue in the township, a location where police said he intended to meet a minor victim. He was arrested without incident and booked into the Kalamazoo County Jail pending charges, police said.

Further investigation showed no children were in danger, police said.

Sparks was charged May 28 with attempted second-degree criminal sexual conduct, which could result in a five-year prison sentence, police said. He was arraigned and given a $150,000 cash or surety bond, police said.
