Michigan lawmaker issues statement saying 'false accusations' led to assault, weapons charges

Michigan lawmaker Neil Friske released a statement regarding the police investigation into his allegations of assault and weapons use.

Friske released a statement Monday afternoon (June 24) regarding his arrest for a potential crime.

Friske R-Charlevoix was released from the Lansing Police Station on Friday, June 22, 2024, after officers were called at 2:45 a.m. to the 2100 block of Forest Road in Lansing on reports of a wandering man with a gun and gunshots.

Although Friske was released Friday as police and prosecutors were investigating whether assault, sexual assault and weapons charges were filed, he said he maintained his innocence.

Friske says: “As conservative Republicans, we are well aware of the biased media coverage of incidents involving us. Despite their false narratives, I maintain my innocence. Due to the ongoing investigation, there are details I cannot disclose at this time. What I can say is that the police were called and she was arrested on false charges. However, during the initial investigation, no evidence was found to support these claims, and I was subsequently released without any charges. I am convinced that this investigation will completely exonerate me.

Friske’s staff released a statement on Facebook saying, “Rep. Friske still exercises his Second Amendment right.

Rep. Friske is one of the most conservative members of the Legislature, and his legal troubles are now making national headlines.
