Michelle Troconis to be sentenced Friday in Jennifer Farber Dulos case

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Michelle Troconis is scheduled to be sentenced Friday, nearly three months after a jury found her guilty of conspiring with her then-boyfriend, Fotis Dulos, to kill Jennifer Farber Dulos and helped him cover up the crimes. .

“She could spend up to 50 years in prison,” said Ryan McGuigan, a former district attorney and criminal defense attorney. “If I were his criminal defense attorney, at this point I would prepare my client to hear that number 50.”

Before sentencing, both parties will have the opportunity to address the court. Relatives of Farber Dulos will make victim impact statements, while more than a dozen of Troconis' family members and friends — in person and by video — are expected to speak on his behalf.

When asked about the proceedings, Troconis' defense attorney Jon Schoenhorn told News 8 that something was submitted in writing on behalf of the Dulos children. We don't know if they will talk.

“The judge probably gave them an open list as to who to call, whether they were direct family members, indirect family members or friends,” McGuigan said.

McGuigan explained that the judge will consider different factors.

“The judge will take into consideration what didn’t happen here,” McGuigan said. “You didn’t get a guilty plea. You didn't find anyone who accepted responsibility for what the jury said he did.

On March 1, Troconis was convicted of six counts, including conspiracy to commit murder, two counts of conspiracy to tamper with evidence, two counts of tampering with physical evidence and second degree obstruction of prosecution.

Schoenhorn also tells us that the judge will take up an issue raised during Troconis' trial. Schoenhorn argued that two counts of conspiracy to tamper with physical evidence could be considered “double jeopardy” or, put simply, that she had been prosecuted twice for the same crime.

Troconis has maintained his innocence from the start and Schoenhorn has announced his intention to appeal.

Troconis was held at York Correctional Institution in Niantic, the state's only facility for female offenders, on $6 million bail.
