Michael Mosley: TV doctor confirmed death as body identified by Greek police | Celebrity News | Showbiz and television

Michael Mosley has been confirmed dead by police. The 67-year-old doctor disappeared Wednesday evening and a body was found Sunday morning.

The body was discovered by a local with an umbrella near some caves known locally as the Abyss, but was awaiting formal identification.

Petros Vassilakis, a senior police official, confirmed it was Dr Mosley's body, while sources told the Mail he was identified by his personal items and clothing.

It was also reported that Dr. Mosley's children were 350 feet from where his body was found when they retraced his steps on Saturday.

Tributes have now poured in from his TV friends, with Jeremy Vine calling him an “incredible man” who was “so rare”, adding: “We will all miss him so much.”

An organ stretcher has since been transported to Agia Marina by uniformed emergency services following the report of a body on Sunday morning.

The TV presenter disappeared while walking along a coastal road on a Greek island. He reportedly returned home alone around 1:30 p.m., after being “tired”.

Mosley and his wife, Dr Clare Bailey, were said to have stayed at a villa in the main port of Symi. When he set off, the temperature rose to a scorching 30s and it should have taken him 25 minutes to complete the kilometer.

Bar manager Illis Tsavaris said he found the body after being alerted by the island's mayor. He said: “They saw him with the boat. The mayor came and saw something, that's when they called me and said 'Hey, they saw something go and check there'”.

“They called me, they said, ‘You know what we saw something far away, you can go check it out’ so I went.”

Michael is best known for being a famous television presenter, having appeared in several BBC and Channel 4 documentaries. He is also a regular guest on The One Show on BBC One and hosts the Just One Thing podcast.

Many celebrities have paid moving tributes to the TV presenter, including Piers Morgan, Julia Hartley-Brewer and Anne Diamond. BBC Radio 2 presenter Jeremy Vine initially expressed concern when Michael went missing, saying he was “praying” he would be found quickly.

Friends had sent appeals on Facebook asking for help in finding the missing doctor, leading to many theories about what might have happened to him. The main theory is that Michael could have fallen into the sea.
