Miami Police – NBC 6 South Florida

A so-called “Christmas Grinch” was arrested months after a customer's holiday packages were stolen from her Tesla, and it's not the only crime he's accused of, Miami police said.

Jesus Fernandez, 53, was arrested Thursday on charges of burglary and grand larceny, police said.

The theft happened Nov. 25 in front of the Home Depot at 2999 Southwest 32nd Avenue.

Police said the victim parked her Tesla and went shopping, but when she returned, she found that previous purchases she had made were missing.

The Tesla's security cameras captured the thief opening the trunk and taking the packages, worth about $1,000, police said.

Detectives were later able to identify the burglar as Fernandez, police said.

Fernandez faces theft and burglary charges in similar cases involving police in Miami-Dade and Doral, officials said.

He also has a warrant from Immigration, Customs and Interpol for smuggling people across the Mexican border, police said.

Fernandez was booked into a Miami-Dade jail, where he was being held on $17,150 bail, records show.
