Miami fire leaves several injured – NBC 6 South Florida

Miami firefighters are battling a massive blaze after an apartment building was engulfed in flames Monday morning.

According to Iggy Carroll, Miami Fire Information Officer, the fire broke out around 8:15 a.m. Monday at the Temple Court Apartments, 431 NW 3.rd Street.

Two firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion and all firefighters were removed from the building and are battling the flames from the exterior.

Authorities said the fire was on the third floor and there were several patients.

The Miami Police Department issued a safety advisory asking people to “refrain from entering or remaining near Lumus Park to avoid potential damage from a nearby apartment fire.”

Miami Mayor Francis Suarez spoke outside the building Monday and said residents would be moved to nearby Jose Marti Park and would receive food and care.

According to Miami Fire, many residents are elderly and immobile and were rescued from their balconies.

Some residents were transported and others were treated at the scene, authorities said.

The Miami Police Department also said a man was found shot inside the building and transported in critical condition to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

At this time, police do not know if the injuries are self-inflicted or if there is a suspect.

The Temple Court apartment complex is made up of one-bedroom and studio units near the Miami River.

Smoke from the fire also drifted across Interstate 95 and much of downtown Miami.

Authorities have not released additional information about how the fire started.
