Miami-Dade teen charged as adult in fatal shooting

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Florida. – A 16-year-old was transferred to the Metro West Detention Center on Wednesday as he is now charged as an adult in connection with a fatal shooting last month.

According to his arrest report, Marquies McBride, of Miami, was arrested May 15, a day after the shooting, which occurred in the area of ​​Southwest 220th Street and 115th Avenue.

Miami-Dade police said the victim was walking on the sidewalk around 1:40 p.m. on May 14 when he was approached from behind by McBride, who shot him several times.

Miami-Dade Fire Department personnel transported the victim to Jackson South Medical Center, where he died.

McBride was found the next day at his home and taken to the MDPD Homicide Bureau for questioning.

The remainder of the released arrest report has been redacted.

The motive for the shooting has not been released by police, nor has the identity of the victim.

McBride faces one count of second-degree murder.

Jail records show McBride also faces a vehicle theft charge in a separate case.

An arrest report from last year shows McBride was arrested Dec. 31 after he was found driving a stolen 2021 Honda CRV in southwest Miami-Dade.

In that case, police said McBride failed to stop the SUV for police and then jumped from the stolen vehicle.

As of Thursday afternoon, he was being held without bail.
