Mel Gibson provides update on 'Lethal Weapon 5' storyline

A “Lethal Weapon 5” has been in the works for a long time, with developments going back several years, but updates have been few and far between as of late. Sadly, franchise director Richard Donner passed away in 2021 and we haven't heard much about the project since.

Well, it now appears that the star and director of the fifth film, Mel Gibson, recently spoke about the planned film on the Inspire Me podcast. It looks like the film is actually happening and Gibson is still very much involved in the both sides of the camera. Look at.

“I am going to direct the 5th film in the Lethal Weapon series. You know, Richard Donner, who directed the other four, unfortunately passed away. He was a good friend, and he kind of put me in charge of carrying the flag home on that one. It will be an honor for me to do this. He had already gone a long way in the script, so we used what was there, and we kept digging into it, working on it a little bit. I'm quite happy with it, it's good, I had a lot of fun doing it.

As with the other films, especially the first two, it seems like a mix of serious and comedic content is king here as well.

Gibson added: “It's funny! But it's also quite serious. It addresses some difficult issues. So I can't wait [it].

No word on who will return – Danny Glover is a no-brainer, as is Roger Murtaugh – right?

We will keep you updated with any new news as it comes to us.
