Medical examiner identifies woman killed in hit-and-run crash

Spokane County medical examiner says Janet Mann died of blunt force injuries

SPOKANE, Wash. — The woman who was killed in a hit-and-run crash in downtown Spokane has been identified.

The Spokane County medical examiner said Janet Mann, 78, died Tuesday of blunt force injuries. The medical examiner ruled Mann's death an accident.

The Mann family released the following statement to KREM 2 Thursday afternoon:

“Janet Mann was all about relationships. She worked intentionally to create, nurture and appreciate the many people in her life. She loved deeply and authentically: she adored her beloved husband of 56 years, her 3 children and their spouses , her 4 grandchildren, and her large and varied community of dear friends. She was humble, compassionate and kind. At 78, Janet would have been horrified to be called elderly. She skied in the winter, rode her bike. in the summer and loved hiking Known as a passionate advocate for children and parents, she leaves a lasting legacy in the field of attachment theory. Above all, she made everyday life better for all those fortunate enough. to surround her. We are devastated by her loss and grateful that she is ours.

The Spokane Police Department said they found a woman in the road who appeared unresponsive near Browne and Main Tuesday afternoon.

SPD said the major crimes unit has not yet found the car involved. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233. Reference 2024-20113779.
