'Meat Spill' Forces 4-Hour Closure of I-880 Northbound Lanes in Oakland

The Oakland CHP issued a severe traffic alert early Friday evening after a “meat spill” — apparently pieces of chicken and beef that came loose from a truck — closed the northbound lanes of I-880 near 29th avenue.

The lanes were fully reopened shortly before 9:30 p.m. according to Caltrans.

The alert was issued around 6:18 p.m. after the traffic hazard on northbound I-880, south of 29th Avenue, closed several lanes. Initially, the CHP said two lanes were closed, but shortly after, all but lane #4 were closed. Motorists have been advised to reduce their speed in the area due to the dangerous conditions.
