MD man suspected of killing parole officer arrested in WV

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WOWK) — A man suspected of being responsible for the death of a Maryland parole officer was arrested in West Virginia after a chase on westbound I-64 near the exit Hurricane Saturday.

According to the US Marshals Office, the vehicle of Emanuel Edward Sewell, 54, a sex offender wanted in connection with the death of Maryland parole and probation officer Davis Martinez, 33, was spotted by US Marshals around 5 p.m.: 8 p.m., who preceded him to initiate a traffic stop on his vehicle.


Sewell's vehicle failed to stop, leading law enforcement to force his vehicle off the road and damaging three U.S. Marshal's vehicles. He was eventually arrested by authorities.

According to the Montgomery County Police Department, Sewell was on parole after being released from prison in 2021. On Friday evening, Maryland parole officer Martinez reportedly went to conduct a check on Sewell's residents and did not didn't show up. Martinez's body was found by authorities in a Chevy Chase apartment outside Washington, D.C. around 6 p.m. that evening.

Sewell was arraigned by the Putnam County Magistrate and jailed without bail. He will be extradited to Montgomery County to face a second-degree murder charge.

The US Marshals were assisted by the West Virginia State Police, the Putnam Sheriff and the Hurricane Police Department.
