WAMPSVILLE, NY – The Madison County Sheriff's Office would like to remind motorists that Monday, June 3 marks the start of “Speed Awareness Week” in New York State.

The Sheriff's Office will participate in Speed Awareness Week June 3-9. During this time, the Sheriff's Office will deploy dedicated traffic enforcement patrols that will target speeding motorists.

Every year, hundreds of New York State motorists lose their lives or are seriously injured in speed-related crashes. Speed is the main contributing factor to fatal road accidents. Excessive speed not only puts the driver's life in danger, but also that of other people on the road.

The aim of “Speed Awareness Week” is to reduce the number of speed-related accidents, which will lead to fewer deaths and injuries.

The Madison County Sheriff's Office wants to encourage all motorists to obey the speed limit and arrive at their destination alive.
