MBI investigates officer-involved shooting in Corinth

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Corinth, Mississippi, involving the Alcorn County Sheriff's Office that occurred on June 8.

Alcorn County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a call for service on County Road 575 in Corinth, Mississippi, around 3:30 p.m.


The first deputy on scene observed a white man hit a white woman, later identified as his mother, in the head with an object.

The deputy gave verbal commands and deployed his Taser which had no effect on the subject. As the subject continued to strike his mother in the head, the deputy then fired his service weapon in the direction of the male subject.

The victim was transported by ambulance and then flown to North MS Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi.

The suspect was transported to the hospital at Magnolia Regional Health Center.

The deputies involved did not suffer any serious physical injuries.

The MBI states that this information is preliminary and subject to change. MBI is currently evaluating this incident and gathering evidence.

Once the investigation is complete, MBI agents said they will share their findings with the attorney general's office.
