Matthew Kwatyra arrested: Alleged Darby Borough stalker accused of contacting victim from prison

DARBY, Pa. (WPVI) — Authorities are warning Delaware County residents following the arrest of an alleged stalker.

Darby Borough Police Chief Joseph Gabe said Matthew Kwatyra, 30, was taken to the Delaware County Jail on Friday on charges of stalking and harassment.

Chief Gabe said Kwatyra is expected to face more charges after allegedly calling the victim from jail Friday night.

Kwatyra did not respond when asked if he had anything to say about his arrest as he left the police station in handcuffs.

The criminal complaint says the victim worked with Kwatyra at an Audi dealership before he was fired in November, and that he has contacted her several times since.

Thursday evening, Chief Gabe said Kwatyra, who lives in Allentown, drove to the victim's home in Darby without warning.

“He contacted her via email, text, that sort of thing,” Chief Gabe said. “Before she arrives, she receives some sort of notice about an AirTag on her phone. Right now, we're continually searching for the AirTag device.”

The victim's boyfriend advised Kwatyra to leave and he was stopped by police in a dark gray Audi SUV.

The police now want to determine if there are other victims.

“We want people to be vigilant about AirTags,” said Chief Gabe. “Check their vehicles, check their purses, their luggage (and) stuff like that.”

“If they feel something in their gut, speak up, say something,” said Candice Linehan, deputy executive director of the Delaware County Victim Assistance Center. “Our agency, as well as law enforcement, we're happy to receive these calls. If we can do anything to keep our community safe, that's what we want to do.”

Linehan said she has seen a substantial increase in cases of harassment using tracking devices.

“It's very serious and it can escalate. It usually escalates,” Linehan said. “In this particular case, we are truly grateful that law enforcement was able to intervene and the victim in this case is a courageous person.”

Chief Gabe said this is a fluid investigation and they are still reviewing the evidence. If you believe you may have been the victim of a stalking incident involving Kwatyra, contact Detective Salvatore at 610-586-1100.
