Massive fire ravages West Town building, Chicago officials say – NBC Chicago

A massive fire broke out in Chicago's West Town neighborhood, drawing dozens of fire engines and other first responders to the scene.

Flames and smoke were visible for miles around Commercial Pallet, located near the intersection of Hubbard and Damen, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

The fire was upgraded to a four-alarm fire, bringing several dozen pieces of equipment to the scene.

Metra trains on the UP-W line were stopped in both directions due to the massive fire, the agency said. Trains on the Milwaukee District West and North Lines were also stopped in both directions due to the fire.

Service on all Metra lines resumed as normal shortly after 8 p.m.

Although no injuries were initially reported, two firefighters were hospitalized in good condition, firefighters said at a press briefing.

The smoke from the fire was so intense that it was picked up by Doppler radar, according to the NBC 5 Storm Team.
