Massachusetts man arrested on cocaine charges after traffic stop

NORTH ATTLEBORO — A Massachusetts State Trooper arrested a man early today on cocaine trafficking charges following a routine traffic stop for illegal window tinting.

Trooper William Rolls, assigned to the Foxboro State Police, was patrolling Elm Street shortly after 3:30 a.m. when he noticed a white Jeep SUV with extremely darkened windows, including the windshield, driving by behind him.

Drives in the opposite direction and stops on the vehicle.

Upon approaching the stopped Jeep, Rolls identified the driver as Derrel Graham, 29, of Roxbury.

After explaining the reason for the shutdown, Rolls tested the window tint and confirmed that it was only 8% transparent, well below the minimum legal standard of 35%.

Deeming the vehicle unsafe for night driving due to excessive tinting of the windshield and front side windows, Rolls requested a tow truck.

Before the Jeep was removed, Rolls conducted an inventory of the vehicle's contents and discovered a bag containing approximately 360 grams of a substance suspected to be crack cocaine.

Graham was arrested and taken to the Foxboro barracks for detention.

A bail commissioner set his bond at $100,000.

Graham faces an arraignment in Attleboro District Court on charges of trafficking cocaine, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and illegal window tinting.
