A preliminary investigation indicated the shooting was the result of a disturbance that escalated into gunfire, according to KCPD.

Police believe there are many witnesses since a large crowd near the scene of the shooting dispersed when shots were fired. Detectives and crime scene investigators have examined the scene for evidence and also wish to speak with anyone who was in the area at the time of the shooting.

If anyone has heard or seen anything or has information, they are asked to contact homicide detectives directly at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.
