Mass shooting in Akron leaves 1 dead, nearly 30 injured

AKRON, Ohio — One man is dead and nearly 30 others are injured following a mass shooting in Akron early Sunday morning.

The Akron Police Department responded to the area of ​​Kelly and 8th Avenue after multiple reports of shots fired shortly after midnight.

“Shortly after these calls came in, the call center received notifications from local hospitals that several people were arriving at the emergency room with gunshot wounds,” according to Akron police.

At this time, Akron police say they believe there are 27 victims from the shooting, including one confirmed death involving a 27-year-old man.

The condition or severity of the victims' injuries is unknown at this time.

“A firearm and several dozen shell casings were recovered at the scene,” according to an Akron police news release.

It is unclear what led to the shooting and no arrests have been made at this time.

“The investigation is in its early stages and more information will be provided as it becomes available,” Akron police said.
