On June 15, a fire ravaged the historic Marysville Hotel, at 420 5th Street. Since then, roads have remained closed and the building is stuck 105 feet in each direction in case the building collapses. The area is usually the annual host of the Marysville Peach Festival, so all the chaos left some community members wondering if the peach event would still take place.

“One thing Marysville is good at is adapting and overcoming,” Marysville Peach Festival coordinator Kary Hauck told FOX40.com. “We made some minor changes to the footprint and billed forward.”

The festival is scheduled to take place July 19 and 20, two blocks from its usual venue. Attendees can expect the event to begin just north of the intersection of 3rd and D Streets and head north on D Street to 9th Street. 1st, 2nd and 3rd Streets will be open to detoured traffic.

Hauck said the fire did not have a major impact on the festival, but some people were still concerned about being in the area.

“Don’t be afraid to come to downtown Marysville,” Hauck said. “Caltrans, OES and the city have done a very good job managing the area. A fence has been installed to keep everyone safe, but I don't think there is any need to worry about structural failure.

The Marysville Peach Festival is expected to feature dozens of delicious peach dishes: hot dogs with peach relish, tri-tip sandwiches with peach barbecue sauce, peach shaved ice, peach jams and jellies , gyros with peach chutney, corndog with peach aioli, and more. .

Visitors can also expect desserts, drinks, local bands, a peach pie eating competition, a children's area and more than 150 vendors.

“Your most beautiful dreams are about to come true!” ”, wrote the coordinators on the event webpage.

Additionally, Hauck said several downtown businesses have been struggling since the fire, so she hopes the festival will give them the boost they need as well.

Traffic News Downtown Marysville

As the event approaches, Hauck said recommendations on how to get around Marysville for the peach festival will be released. She added that the event webpage will include parking assistance and tips for avoiding traffic jams.

On June 17, officials informed the public of heavy traffic in downtown Marysville and recommended commuters use alternate routes. They warned that traveling to the region could take much longer than usual.

“Traffic is not as bad as some reports say,” Hauck said. “Caltrans has done a great job providing detours, and I’ve been able to get through Marysville faster now than I used to.”
