Maryland man convicted in 2021 road rage-related shooting in Washington

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Authorities have sentenced a Maryland man to more than 30 years in prison for a 2021 “road rage” shooting in Washington that targeted a mother, her two children and a bystander.

The United States Attorney's Office (USAO) in Washington said in a statement Monday that Kenneth Miles Davis, Jr., 45, was sentenced to 32 years and six months on several counts.

The USAO said a jury found Davis guilty of “one count of assault with intent to kill while armed, three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and four counts of charge of possession of a firearm during a crime of violence.

According to prosecutors' testimony, Davis was driving his car, a Maserati GranTurismo, in Washington, D.C. around 5 p.m. on May 19, 2021. USAO said there was heavy rush hour traffic at the intersection of Kenilworth Avenue NE and Eastern Avenue NE, where Davis “suddenly got out of his car with a handgun” and “shot the car in front of him seven times” and turned and fired “six more shots at bystanders “.

The mother and her two children were in the car.

The woman was shot in the upper arm and one of her children, aged 5, was injured by flying glass. Her other child, aged 11, was not injured. No bystanders were injured either.

USAO said Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) investigators found video evidence. A tip helped police identify Davis as the suspect in the shooting.
