Martin Mull, star known for 'Roseanne' and 'Arrested Development,' dies at age 80

Martin Mull, a musician and actor known for his work in comedies like “Clue,” “Roseanne” and “Arrested Development,” died Thursday after battling an unknown illness, his family said. He was 80 years old.

“I am heartbroken to share that my father passed away at home on June 27th after a courageous battle with a long illness,” his daughter, Maggie, wrote on Instagram Friday.

“He was known for excelling in every creative discipline imaginable and also for directing commercials for Red Roof Inn,” she continued. “He would find this joke funny. He was never funny.

“My father will be deeply missed by his wife and daughter, his friends and co-workers, his fellow artists, actors and musicians and, as a sign of a truly special person, many, many dogs,” she added in the message, which included a heartwarming photo of Mull stroking a dog's belly.

“I loved him very much.”

Mull launched her career on the 1970s TV shows “Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman” and “Fernwood 2 Night,” before starring as Colonel Mustard in the 1985 film “Clue,” starring Leon Carp in “Roseanne.” and beloved private eye Gene Parmesan in “Arrested Development.”

He also gained notice for his role as political aide Bob Bradley on “Veep,” which earned him an Emmy nomination in 2016. Mull's most recent roles include appearances on “The Afterparty,” “Not Dead Yet” and “Grace and Frankie.”

Mull is survived by his wife, Wendy Haas, an actress and songwriter whom he married in 1982, and his daughter Maggie, a television screenwriter and producer.
