Marshall County man sentenced on multiple charges related to February police chase | News, Sports, Jobs

A Glen Easton man was sentenced Monday to at least three years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges stemming from a February police chase that resulted in the injury of a Marshall County deputy.

Koleton Caruso, 24, pleaded guilty before Second Circuit Judge Jeffrey Cramer to two felonies — fleeing with reckless indifference and destruction of property — and two misdemeanors — battery on an officer and driving under the influence of alcohol. Marshall County Prosecutor Joe Canestraro said Caruso will serve between three and 25 years in prison on those charges, which will run consecutively.

He will serve that sentence after serving a 1- to 10-year sentence for a prior felony, Canestraro said. Then, after sentencing Monday, Canestraro said Caruso would have to serve at least one more year on the misdemeanor charges.

Authorities say Caruso led Marshall County sheriff's deputies on a chase, during which Caruso's vehicle collided with two police cars. One of the deputies hit his head on the roof of his car after Caruso rammed it.

Canestraro said the sentence was what his office requested and expected and that he was pleased with how the sentencing was handled.

Caruso also faces charges in Ohio and Brooke counties, as well as in Ohio, where he is accused of theft.
