Marseille man arrested for homicide – Shaw Local

A Marseillais has died and another Marseillais is detained at the La Salle departmental prison, awaiting the filing of a complaint for homicide.

Logan M. Petre, 21, is in custody on a charge of first-degree murder-homicide, according to the La Salle County Sheriff's Office website.

A report from Marseille police, the arresting agency, was not immediately available and a message left for Chief Todd Gordon was not immediately returned. La Salle County Coroner Rich Ploch said a news release is pending.

However, La Salle County State's Attorney Joe Navarro confirmed that Petre was arrested Saturday morning following the investigation of a homicide reported Saturday morning.

Navarro declined further comment, citing Illinois Supreme Court rules that prohibit prosecutors from discussing active cases.

Petre was scheduled to appear in La Salle County Circuit Court on Monday for a detention hearing, during which prosecutors would disclose in open court the facts of the case.

Illinois abolished cash bail last fall and all suspects, including homicide defendants, are given a presumption of pretrial release. However, to date, no suspects charged with first-degree murder in La Salle County have been released pending trial.

Petre's request for pretrial release will be further complicated by the fact that he has three open cases, including two for forcible and/or violent crime charges.

According to La Salle County Circuit Court records, Petre is awaiting trial for a home invasion that occurred in June 2023. A month later, and after being granted pretrial release, he was charged with two counts of battery and aggravated injury to a peace officer. In November, he was charged with driving while intoxicated.

This story will be updated as new information becomes available.
