Married teenager at 15, worked at a car wash to support his marriage

Marriage often marks an important milestone in a person's life journey. However, when Nabil Syahmi Danish Askar, a teenager from Kampung Seberang, Sarikei, Sarawak, chose to get married at just 15 years old, his story became a unique testimony of courage and determination..

Nabil's unconventional path to marriage

Nabil, now 16, has embarked on a remarkable journey toward marriage, defying societal norms and expectations. Nabil's heart was immediately captivated when he met the then 17-year-old Dayangku Nazarina Awangku Saifuddin at a motorcycle event two years before, who would later become his wife. “That’s where we exchanged phone numbers to get to know each other better, and since then we have been hanging out often,” he told Harian Metro. Additionally, Nabil's worry about being seen with someone else's daughter without a legitimate relationship ultimately led them to make the decision to get married.

Parental Concerns About Marriage

Every parent wants the best for their children, especially when it comes to marriage. It's no different for Nabil's parents, especially his mother who was skeptical about his decision and his seriousness. Fortunately, seeing Nabil's seriousness, his mother granted him permission and gave her blessing for their marriage.

Worked tirelessly to finance the wedding

Despite his young age, Nabil showed remarkable determination in marrying his wife. He held part-time positions at a car wash shop and as a tow truck driver two years prior. Through diligent safeguarding of these efforts, he managed to hold a ceremony in Kampung Seberang, Sarikei, Sarawak. They got married on May 10 last year and are now happily married, not regretting getting married at such a young age.

Happily married, they welcomed their first child

Although many have heard that getting married at such a young age would not be pleasant, Nabil refuted this notion, emphasizing the joy that comes from having a wife and child. Regarding family planning, Nabil revealed that he and his wife initially planned to wait a year after their marriage before starting a family. However, to their surprise, his wife became pregnant just two months into their marriage. Today, they are delighted with the presence of their two-month-old daughter, Kayra Afeeya, in good health.
