Manchester United 'identify' Marcus Rashford's successor as transfer-linked winger

Manchester United have reportedly set their sights on Paris Saint-Germain star Xavi Simons following an impressive loan spell at RB Leipzig.

The Dutchman is currently traveling with the Netherlands to Germany for Euro 2024, but there is intense speculation surrounding his future with Arsenal, Manchester City and Bayern Munich, all linked with transfer interest.

United are in the market for a new striker this summer, but are believed to target a striker, with Rasmus Hojlund now the club's only natural centre-forward, with Anthony Martial leaving at the end of his contract this month. Simons is a versatile asset who can play on both wings.

He can also play as a number 10, which may be attractive given Mason Mount's poor first season and Bruno Fernandes, 30 in September, missed his first ever games with United due to injury towards the end from the last campaign.

A report from L'Equipe links United with an interest in Simons, who plays mainly on the left flank and recorded 10 goals and 15 assists in 43 matches last season. Marcus Rashford had a poor season on the left flank last season, scoring just eight goals in all competitions.

Alejandro Garnacho is now considered the first-choice choice, with Rashford on the bench for the final two games of the Premier League season, although he started the FA Cup final after learning he had been omitted of England's provisional squad for Euro 2024.
