Manchester United have secret weapon to try to seal Michael Olise transfer

Manchester United will need to use all their assets to maximize their pulling power this summer after a record Premier League result.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe's call-up for Erik ten Hag's position will play a huge role in the transfer market, especially when it comes to Jadon Sancho. The Champions League finalist is still at odds with the United manager who fell out over comments about training levels.

Borussia Dortmund are reportedly interested in a permanent move for the 24-year-old after an encouraging loan spell, while a return to United appears off the table if Ten Hag remains at the helm.

Both Antony and Marcus Rashford have disappointed this season, leading to speculation that United could consider signing a new striker. Michael Olise is a player frequently linked to Old Trafford.

Despite two hamstring setbacks, the Frenchman was in great form on the pitch, scoring 10 goals and six assists in 19 games. Olise was therefore selected to represent his country at the Olympic Games.

Palace are expected to expect a significant sum for their asset amid increased interest. United cannot offer Olise football in the Champions League next season, so Ratcliffe may have to resort to a secret weapon.

The Ineos chief has often been pictured sitting with or near Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford as rebuilding work continues. Sir Alex is also a close ally of Crystal Palace sporting director Dougie Freedman, having been his neighbor at one point.

The two Glaswegians were pictured leaving a restaurant this weekend, with their friendship clearly still going strong. Ratcliffe may wish to use this link if United do indeed allow Olise to continue.

At one point, Freedman had been linked with the role of United's sporting director until it was decided that Newcastle chief Dan Ashworth – still on gardening leave – should be targeted.

The former Palace and Leeds striker has been credited with spotting Olise, Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi at Selhurst Park, with all three now linked with big money moves to 'big six' clubs. Even though he won't be plying his trade at Old Trafford anytime soon, he can still play a role in United's transfer business.

He will almost certainly play hardball in any approach, but perhaps his friendship with Sir Alex will soften his stance, if Ratcliffe does indeed choose to take that route. It's far from a surefire way to secure a transfer, but it certainly gives United the edge they need in the race for Olise.
