Manchester United appoint Bayern Munich's Mala Grohs to replace Mary Earps

Manchester United have reportedly identified their preferred replacement for women's team goalkeeper Mary Earps, who is expected to leave the club shortly.

Earps' contract with United is set to expire in a few days.

The Red Devils were engaged in negotiations with the England international over a new deal, but no agreement was ever reached. A few weeks ago, Earps insisted she would only stay at Old Trafford if the club matched her ambitions.

Last summer, United turned down a record bid from Arsenal for Earps and it appears they are now set to lose her for free.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person revealed that she is set to join French team Paris Saint-Germain.

It has been claimed that PSG made the 31-year-old a tempting offer, but that her decision to join the Parisians was ultimately not motivated by money. She wants to compete for the biggest honours and play in the biggest competitions such as the Champions League.

Manchester United will of course not play in the Champions League as they finished a lowly fifth in the Women's Super League, 20 points behind table leaders Chelsea.

According to reliable Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, United are already planning for life without Earps and have identified a replacement for her.

Plettenberg wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “Bayern’s Maria Luisa Grohs is a candidate for Manchester United Women.”

“Grohs is ready to leave FC Bayern to achieve her personal goal of joining a top club in the FA Women's Super League.”

“Grohs could replace Mary Earps who is about to join Paris Saint-Germain!”

Grohs kept 14 clean sheets in 21 Bundesliga appearances last season, helping Bayern win the title.
