Man, woman suffer stab wounds in Royal Oak Twp. domestic violence incident

A man was arrested Sunday after a fight with his girlfriend in Royal Oak Township left them both with stab sounds, Michigan State Police said.

Dispatchers received a call at about 4 p.m. about a domestic dispute involving a knife at a home in the 21000 block of Wyoming Avenue near Pasadena Avenue and north of Eight Mile Road, officials said.

Troopers arrived and saw a man covered in blood walking from the home, they said. Police rendered aid to the man and medics took him to a hospital.

After further investigation, authorities determined the 36-year-old man assaulted a woman inside the home during a fight. Investigators said the victim is the man's girlfriend and he allegedly strangled her.

During their fight, the woman got free and ran to the kitchen, where she and the suspect wrestled over a knife in the sink, police said. Authorities said the suspect and the woman both suffered stab wounds in the struggle.

Detectives said the woman then ran to a neighbor's house to ask for help and to call 911.

Officials said the man is in custody at a hospital and will be taken to jail when released by medical staff.

Medics treated the woman at the scene of the incident and refused further medical care.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and they will submit their findings to the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office for review.

“There is help available if you are a victim of domestic violence,” MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw said in a statement. “You can call the Michigan Domestic Violence hotline at 866-VOICEDV for access to available services.”
