(CBS DETROIT) – The Oakland County Sheriff's Office is investigating two separate incidents in North Commerce Lake and Union Lake.

According to the sheriff's office, search and rescue responded to North Commerce Lake around 5:57 p.m. for an unresponsive man floating in the water.

Authorities said the 20-year-old Commerce Township man was on a pontoon boat near a sandbar in the lake when he dove in and hit his head on the lake floor, about 4 feet (1.2 meters) underwater. The man, who was not wearing a life jacket, was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

Investigators believe alcohol was a factor.

Around 5:43 p.m., the sheriff's office said a 32-year-old Waterford Township man was riding a personal watercraft when he fell. The watercraft continued for some distance before hitting a 24-foot pontoon boat.

Authorities said a 29-year-old woman was lying on her back near the nose of the boat when it struck. She suffered minor injuries and declined medical treatment at the scene.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
