It happened shortly after 6 a.m. in the area of Table Mountain Boulevard and Cherokee Road. A deputy noticed George Wright, 25, who had multiple felony warrants for his arrest for previously eluding law enforcement and for being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm and ammunition, driving a red GMC pickup truck.

The deputy attempted to stop Wright, but he drove away at a high speed before hitting and disabling a gate on Big-O Road, the sheriff's office said.

Wright then attempted to drive over a retaining wall, deputies say, which disabled the truck. He then fled across a large field and found himself in a heavily wooded area. Police searched for him on foot and by helicopter, but he was not found.
