Man who taunted police with Facebook poems charged with alleged vehicle theft

A man who taunted police with a poem on his Facebook page has been charged with alleged motor vehicle theft.

Earlier this week, Blackpool Police issued an appeal to the public for help in tracing a man accused of several thefts and attempted thefts from motor vehicles.

The suspect then posted a poem in the comments, to which police responded with their own poem.

Lancashire Telegraph:

The suspect commented: “Chill like a bad guy, buzz like a bee, ride like a soldier, the police can't catch me”, to which the police responded “commit a simple crime, you won't stay free, the man is only a civilian, soon enter your plea.”

The police response gained popularity on Facebook, receiving more than 1,500 likes and reactions from commenters.

The suspect was arrested in Blackburn on Saturday May 25.

Wilkinson was interviewed by the investigation team and subsequently charged and committed to court for a number of alleged thefts from motor vehicles and attempted thefts from motor vehicles.

A spokesperson for Blackpool Police said: “Well that comment hasn't aged well. Maybe he should have said “buzz like a bee in HMP”.

“We have asked for your help in locating Ajay Wilkinson, a suspect in a number of alleged vehicle thefts in the Lytham St Anne area and he was very 'active' on our Facebook pages at the time.

“The Fylde Rural Task Force would like to thank you for all your help and confirm that Wilkinson was arrested in Blackburn yesterday.

“He was interviewed by the investigation team and subsequently charged and committed to court for a number of thefts from motor vehicles and attempted thefts from motor vehicles.”
