Hamilton police are continuing their search to identify and locate a man they believe is linked to an assault on a woman in West Mountain nearly two years ago. HP PHOTO

The public's assistance is urgently sought to help identify a man believed to be linked to an assault that occurred at West Mountain in Hamilton almost two years ago.

Hamilton police continue to investigate the July 2022 attack and are hoping someone will come forward to help identify the suspect in the video and photo above.

On July 13, 2022, at approximately 9:30 a.m., a woman walking in the area of ​​Upper Paradise and Donnici Drive was approached by an unknown person and dragged off the trail.

The man began to attack her, but was interrupted by witnesses passing by. The man fled on foot south toward Upper Paradise and was later seen on video in the area of ​​Edgehill Drive.

Despite numerous clues and leads, investigators have not yet identified or located this individual.

“We are once again asking the public to be vigilant and report any sightings or information relating to this suspect,” investigators said.

The suspect is described as a black man between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall, between 18 and 24 years old. He is estimated to weigh approximately 175 pounds, have an athletic build and slim build, and have short, black hair that curls on top. with short/shaved sides.

He wore a navy blue V-neck t-shirt with black or dark sweatpants and white socks. He wore gray casual/running shoes with a white emblem and carried a black crossbody bag.

The suspect also wore a black sweater/jacket tied around his waist or may have been wearing one. He also wore a black medical mask worn over and under his mouth/chin.

With the arrival of spring and an expected increase in use of the trail system, police are encouraging residents to take the following safety measures:

  • Walk or run with a partner when possible
  • Let someone know your route and estimated return time
  • Avoid poorly lit paths or walk/run after dark.
  • Stay in populated areas when alone
  • Carry a cell phone or personal alarm device
  • Avoid using headphones when walking/running
  • Be strong and scream for help if confronted
  • Make sure residential doors are locked and exterior lights are on at night
