Man tries to lure teen into car in Wrigleyville

CHICAGO — Police are issuing a warning to residents on the city's north side after a man tried to lure a 12-year-old girl into his car early Saturday morning.

According to Chicago Police, the incident happened between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m. in the 3900 block of North Wayne Avenue in Wrigleyville.


Officers say the girl was walking in the area when a man in a black SUV approached her and told her to get in his car twice. The girl then returned home without incident.

Authorities described the individual involved as an African-American man in his 50s with a shaved head. At the time of the incident, police say he was wearing dark sunglasses and a dark shirt.

Police are now urging North Side residents to remain aware and alert their neighbors of the incident.

Officers are warning the public to remain aware of their surroundings and are urging anyone who may witness a similar event not to approach the subjects and instead note any unique details or characteristics about the offenders in order to provide the information to the police.

Officers also advise parents not to let their children walk or play alone and recommend that families establish safe havens along their children's routes to school and home.
