Man to be tried for stabbing 15-year-old girl

WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI – A 49-year-old man will stand trial for allegedly stabbing two people in Ann Arbor.

Munsif Altork, of Ann Arbor, waived his right to a preliminary examination during a June 4 hearing before Judge Erane Washington of 14B District Court, sending the case against him back to trial court. He faces two counts each of assault with intent to kill and assault with a dangerous weapon.

Altork is accused of attacking a 42-year-old woman and her 15-year-old stepdaughter with a butcher knife around 7:30 a.m. April 15 at the couple's home in the 2900 block of Braeburn Circle in Ann Arbor.

Altork fled on foot and police arrested him near the home without incident, police said.

The butcher knife used in the incident was still in the woman when police arrived, Assistant Washtenaw County Prosecutor Morgen Barroso said during Altork's April 16 arraignment hearing before 14A-1 District Court Magistrate Elisha Fink.

The 15-year-old girl was stabbed eight times, Fink said, citing police.

Both victims were transported to University of Michigan Hospital. The woman was in critical condition at the time. She has since been released from the hospital, Ann Arbor police spokesman Chris Page confirmed Thursday.

The girl was taken to hospital in stable condition. She too has since been released.

Altork was subject to a competency hearing at a May 14 hearing, also before Washington. He was previously convicted of domestic violence in 15th District Court, according to court records.

He is being held in the Washtenaw County Jail on $2 million bail. He is scheduled to appear June 20 in Washtenaw County Magistrate Court.
