Man, teen charged in Santa Cruz store robbery

ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica — A man and teenager who allegedly robbed a store along Main Street in Santa Cruz, St. Elizabeth, of items worth $2 million have been charged.

The man was identified as Fitzroy Hasting, 23, a lifeguard from the West End Negril and Little London district, Westmoreland.

The defendants are charged with aggravated robbery, possession of a prohibited weapon, use of a firearm to commit a crime and receiving stolen property.

According to police, on Tuesday, May 7, around 3 p.m., the complainants were in a store when Hasting and the teen entered armed with handguns and demanded money.

They allegedly robbed the complainants of iPhones and Samsung tablets worth $2 million, then fled the area in a waiting Toyota Axio car.

A month later, on Tuesday June 4, the vehicle was reportedly intercepted by police.

A search of the vehicle allegedly revealed the property reported stolen, police said.

The men were taken to the police station where they were identified by the complainants.

They were then charged.
