DENVER (KDVR) — A 31-year-old man and a 16-year-old have been arrested on first-degree murder charges in connection with a fatal shooting in west Denver.

On Saturday, June 8, at 6:26 p.m., Denver Police Department officers were called to the 500 block of North Sheridan Boulevard for reports of a shooting. The area is in the Barnum West neighborhood.

When officers arrived, they found Manuel Luque Quintana, 29, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police said a female victim was also shot and left the scene. She was found a short distance away at 5th Avenue West and Zenobia Street, where she was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Following an investigation, Denver police said a suspect got out of the passenger side of a car and shot the man and woman who were sitting in a parked car.

Police said they used evidence, automated license plate readers and tips from the community to identify the suspects as Simon Eugene Elijah Gurule, 31, and a 16-year-old man. Due to the minor's age, his name and photo will not be released by police.

Denver police said Gurule was arrested in Denver and the teen was arrested in Arvada. Both are being held for investigation of first-degree murder and criminal attempt to commit first-degree murder.
