Man steals cigarettes worth $2,000 during armed robbery at Walgreens in Tampa

A man is accused of robbing a Walgreens and stealing $2,000 worth of cigarettes.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, the armed robbery occurred on Friday, June 28. The suspect, Malcolm Green, entered Walgreens, approached the clerk, lifted his shirt to remove a large plastic bag and a firearm with an extended magazine.

HCSO said he asked the victim to stay quiet and not move while he stole numerous cartons of cigarettes and placed them in the bag.

Green, 28, then jumped over the counter and fled on foot to a gray Toyota Camry.

The sheriff's office was able to track Green to a Family Dollar where he attempted to flee HCSO deputies and Tampa police by driving onto a parked sidewalk, but became stuck after hitting another vehicle and a pillar in front of the store.

Green's theft led the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to respond to the scene, according to HCSO.

Video shows police approaching the Family Dollar and approaching Green with guns drawn. Green then exited the vehicle and was arrested, the video shows.

After his arrest, Green was convicted of escape and is currently on probation for weapons possession. He has been charged with armed robbery.

HCSO says the investigation is ongoing at this time.
