Man stabbed in broad daylight in North Vancouver sends man to hospital

A North Vancouver man is recovering in hospital after being attacked by a knife-wielding individual Saturday afternoon.

RCMP say officers responded to a report of a stabbing near the Raven Pub in Deep Cove around 4 p.m. PT.

Const. Mansoor Sahak of the North Vancouver RCMP told CBC News the suspect is currently in custody.

“No charges have been filed and at this point the investigation is in its early stages,” Sahak said.

Police confirmed the scene had been cleared and there was no disruption to traffic in the area.

The mayor speaks to witnesses

Shortly after the incident, North Vancouver Mayor Mike Little, who lives a few blocks away, visited the scene to speak with neighbors and witnesses.

Based on his conversations with witnesses, Little said the attacker appeared to be in “distress” and began assaulting a motorcyclist.

He was told the situation could have been much worse without the motorcyclist's safety equipment and the quick action of a bystander.

“As the motorcyclist moved away from the attacker, a quick-thinking individual opened his car door, allowing the motorcyclist to escape while the attacker continued to pound on the vehicle,” Little said .

Although the RCMP have not confirmed whether the attack was targeted, witnesses say it appeared to be random.
