Man stabbed, brothers arrested during fight at Randall's Island migrant shelter (police)

A 25-year-old man was stabbed and two brothers were arrested following a bloody brawl at a Randall's Island migrant shelter that sparked a larger fight among its residents, police said Saturday.

Dozens of officers were dispatched to the shelter on E. 125th Street after the 7:50 p.m. attack Friday, officers said.

The two brothers were arguing with another man at the shelter when the victim tried to break up the fight, a police source said.

When the victim intervened, Josué Deléon, 19, stabbed him in the shoulder, the police said. His older brother Moises, 27, also joined the fight, they added.

The victim was rushed to a local hospital with a minor injury, police said.

Josué Deléon was taken into custody for second-degree assault, police said. His older brother was charged with assault. Their arraignments in Manhattan Criminal Court were pending.

The stabbing sparked a second fight at the shelter. Additional police and guards were called in to quell the escalating violence, and an 18-year-old man was arrested.

He was summoned for criminal mischief and released, police said.

This is not the first time that violence has broken out at this troubled shelter.

On April 8, five shelter residents were arrested after beating a 24-year-old man who was eating on his bed, police said.

In March, migrants surrounded a group of uniformed police and threw bottles and debris as officers tried to apprehend a disorderly man inside the shelter, video posted online showed.

The huge shelter can accommodate up to 2,000 migrants, authorities said.
