Man shot, now barricaded on Flagstaff Road

Boulder County Sheriff's deputies are negotiating with an armed man who barricaded himself in a car on Flagstaff Road after firing a gun this morning.

According to BCSO spokesperson Vinnie Montez, deputies confined the man to the 2100 block of Flagstaff Road. There is a strict closure of both lanes of traffic at the base of Flagstaff Mountain through the 2200 block of Flagstaff Road, according to Montez. All trails on Flagstaff Mountain are closed.

Montez said it was unclear if the man was suicidal but he was speaking with deputies. Montez said the man was confined and deputies were working to keep him isolated from the area. Along with deputies, open space and mountain park officials and Boulder police are on scene.

Montez said there were no known injuries from the shot fired.

Montez said for those trying to access Flagstaff Road west of the incident, the best route is to use Colo. 72 to Gross Dam Road. Montez said Gross Dam Road will be closed at 3:30 p.m. for construction, but law enforcement is working to reschedule the closure.
