Man shot near domestic dispute in Overland Park

Police say an innocent driver was struck by a bullet fired by a man involved in a domestic dispute in Overland Park, Kansas on May 24, 2024.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Overland Park police are searching for a man who allegedly injured a woman during a domestic dispute and shot a man who was driving in a parking lot where the argument took place.

Police said it happened shortly after midnight Friday near W. 83rd and Mastin. Investigators say a woman was trying to get away from the man when he pulled out a handgun and shot the driver, striking and injuring him.


The man who was shot was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The woman was also taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries she sustained during the domestic violence incident.

A news release said that after the shooting, the suspect attempted to steal at least one vehicle before leaving in another. Officers in another town spotted him and pursued him, but stopped once the suspect crossed the state line into Missouri. The vehicle was eventually found, but there was no trace of the suspect.
