Man shot multiple times after Pride celebration near Washington Square Park

A 20-year-old man was shot multiple times early Monday morning near Washington Square Park following Pride celebrations Sunday in New York, police said. Police sources said 6th Precinct officers responded to a 911 call about a man shot at the intersection of East Ninth Street and Fifth Avenue on July 1 around 2:04 a.m. When officers arrived, they saw the young man bleeding from gunshot wounds to his buttocks and right hand. Emergency medical services quickly transported the man to NYC Health and Hospitals/Bellevue, where he remains in stable condition. At this time, there have been no arrests and the motive is unclear. The case is still ongoing. According to a WABC-TV report, several fights broke out near the park during the celebrations. One witness said in the article that Pride festivities "aren't supposed to be like this" and hoped the violence would not happen again. “It’s really crazy, Pride isn’t supposed to be like this,” the witness said. “We're supposed to go out and have fun and love each other and come together.
