Man shot dead on Boston Common near fountain, police say

Police said a man was shot Monday evening on the Boston Common, next to the fountain. Police responded to the scene shortly after 10 p.m. after receiving reports of five shots fired in the area. When police arrived on scene, they found the victim, a man in his 30s, with at least one gunshot wound to the back. A police spokesperson said Boston Common was closed around the perimeter and was being treated as an active crime scene. Police said the victim was transported by Boston EMS to a nearby hospital. An update on his condition was not immediately available. Boston homicide detectives and crime scene investigators were dispatched to the scene, police said.
