Man shot dead at busy intersection near Tampa; deputies search for suspect

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Detectives are still trying to determine who fatally shot a man at a New Tampa intersection Monday.

“Once we realize it's gunshots, you don't run to see what's going on because the bullets don't have names,” said a man who works nearby.

It was a routine day for most New Tampa residents, but it quickly turned into chaos.

“They were trying to do CPR, but everyone was coming from everywhere. Everywhere there was someone who was not afraid. They came out and you could tell people were worried,” the witness said.

A white Mercedes with yellow evidence markers was found near Regents Park Drive and Bruce B. Downs Boulevard – a busy intersection that was marked off with crime scene tape.

Family members and friends identified the victim as Kyle Prisco. The sheriff's office said it was determined to find the person responsible.

“The police found him dead on the road. This is also what the appellant stated. Once again, it's very unfortunate. We’re trying to seek justice for this,” said Phil Martello, a spokesman for the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

The time and location of the shooting still shocked many people in New Tampa.

“In the middle of the day, around three in the afternoon, we start to hear gunshots. We hear tires spinning and, as we go out, we see that unfortunately someone has lost their life,” said a witness.

HCSO said no tip was too small, considering the shooting occurred in a busy area. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call 813-247-8200.
