Man shot and killed by Holly Hill police officer, sheriff's office says

HOLLY HILL, Florida. – A man was shot and killed by a Holly Hill police officer after a 911 call saying he had a knife and was threatening to stab someone, according to the Volusia Sheriff's Office.

Police were called to an apartment at 467 Ridgewood Ave. Tuesday evening, according to a Facebook post from the sheriff's office.

Investigators said the caller told them a man armed with a steak knife was threatening to harm himself and others inside the apartment. The caller said he had made death threats in the past and was about to stab someone, according to the message.

The sheriff's office said a responding officer reported the man being held at gunpoint around 5:26 p.m., then shots were fired moments later.

Investigators said the man died at the scene. No one else was injured.

The Sheriff's Office is assisting the Holly Hill Police Department following a series of resignations following allegations of “inappropriate incidents,” which is why the office is releasing information about the shooting.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
