Man shot and killed by Euclid police indicted on suspicion of shooting, assault involving same woman

EUCLID, Ohio (WOIO) – The 39-year-old Euclid man shot and killed by police last month will be arraigned Wednesday in Cuyahoga County.

The man was armed with a handgun and allegedly shot a woman moments before the encounter with officers, Euclid Police Capt. Mitch Houser said.

Eric Deon Parham survived the shooting and is currently incarcerated at the Cuyahoga County Jail.

Captain Houser said officers were called to Simms Park, in the 23100 block of Lakeshore Boulevard. around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, for a report of shots fired.

Officers received a description of the suspect and learned he was heading on foot toward Maria's Family Restaurant in the 22300 block of Lakeshore Boulevard, Capt. Houser said.

Police quickly located Parham and ordered him to lie on the ground.

Parham allegedly began backing away from police, then turned and grabbed a handgun from his waistband.

Captain Houser said that's when two officers shot Parham. He was treated and released at a local hospital before being transported to jail.

A 9mm semi-automatic handgun was found at the scene, police said.

No officers were injured.

According to Captain Houser, Parham shot and killed a 42-year-old woman in Simms Park. She is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Parham was wanted by Euclid police for a felony assault on the same woman that occurred on May 17. Captain Houser said shots were also fired during that incident.

Captain Houser added that Parham's criminal history includes: robbery, felonious assault, firearms and drug charges.

The two Euclid officers involved in the shooting were assigned to administrative duties, per department policy and procedure.

The Ohio Attorney General's Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) is handling the investigation, at the request of Euclid Police Chief Scott Meyer.
