Man sets himself on fire inside Plant City Publix

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A 30-year-old man is in critical condition after police say he set himself on fire inside a Plant City Publix Wednesday evening.

Shortly after 6:30 p.m., the Plant City Police Department was called to a disturbance at the Publix supermarket at the Walden Woods Shopping Plaza at 2202 James L. Redman Parkway.


A caller told police the man set himself on fire inside the store.

Several people rushed to the man's aid and worked to put out the flames while waiting for the Plant City Fire Department to arrive. The 30-year-old man was transported to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

It is unclear what exactly led to the incident. Plant City Police and Investigations Division
and forensic services are investigating the incident.
